News and Announcements

After an exciting Major League Baseball playoffs (congrats Houston Astros!) and a fun Fall season for our own little big leaguers, I’d like to thank all of our players, parents, coaches, and volunteers for a fantastic year in the Philipstown Little League. Special thanks to our Little League Board members who always put our players first — Luz Bailey, Bo Bell, Katie Cucchiarella, Lee Erickson, Dave McCarthy (outgoing President), Mike Meeropol, Craig Skiptunis, Kristin Van Tassel, and Tom Virgadamo.

With each game, our ballplayers got better, wiser, and more confident at the plate and in the field. In Little League we’re all about playing small ball, growing our game little by little. And we’ll continue doing it straight through winter! Check the Rec Sports winter catalog for info on our Thursday night clinics from January-March as well as Sunday afternoon clinics with our outstanding youth baseball Coach John Blair. I highly recommend both sessions. I also recommend registering for the Thursday night sessions, even though the catalog indicates that pre-registration is not necessary. We can better tailor our instruction, when we know who’s coming on Thursday nights.

I look forward to seeing our young players return in the spring. Have them bring along siblings or friends who haven’t played the game before or want to give baseball or softball (yes!) a shot. Spring registration info is coming soon. Register by January for early bird fees!

Thanks for your support,
Paul Tomizawa
President, Philipstown Little League

Registration is starting to pick up for Fall Baseball. Let’s keep it going, so we can field a U12 and U10 team in September and October. Also, please let us know if you’d be available to coach. We’re always in the market for parents willing to volunteer their time and learn how to coach a little league team. Register using this link https://www.teampages.com/forms/15099-2017-Fall-Ball-Registration-Form

If your child is not interested in playing baseball, but would like to try another sport in the fall, how about football? Our friends with the Philipstown Hawks are currently signing up young athletes for flag and tackle football and cheer! Please see the attached flyer for details.

The document 2017_Philipstown_Hawks_Informational_Flyer.pdf was attached to this post.

We will soon close our Fall Ball registration. So please, if your child would like to play, now’s the time to register. Click the link below. Fall Ball consists of two teams: U12 and U10. Typically these rosters include Major and Minor league players from this past season. These teams will practice once a week and play a game on weekends, home and away, against fall ball teams from other local communities. The season runs from September into October. We will make every effort to avoid scheduling conflicts with fall sports such as soccer and football.

NOTE: we need coaches and assistants! Please indicate on the form if you are interested in coaching or helping out. Our kids have the opportunity to play because of parents like you who generously volunteer their time. Thank you!

New Bat Requirement for 2018

USA Baseball is instituting a new standard for bat performance. This new standard means that all bats used in Little League play this past and previous seasons will NOT be allowed beginning January 1, 2018. Please resist any clearance sales as stores attempt to unload its supply of soon-to-be banned bats on unsuspecting consumers. The only bats eligible for use next season will be those sporting the USA Baseball logo (shown to the left). For more information on the new bat requirement, please click the link below. Thank you
Paul
