Philipstown LL Shuts Down

Dear Friends and Family,
It is with sadness and an abundance of caution that the Philipstown Little League is immediately suspending all gatherings — clinics, practices, and potentially games— until at least April 6 at the recommendation of Little League International. Our partner Little Leagues throughout our competitive region are also suspending activities until April 6. We will continually seek guidance from local authorities and health experts in hopes of returning to action as soon as possible.

While on the one hand, this was an easy decision to make given our responsibility to keeping our community healthy and safe. But on the other hand, we are conflicted because in times such as these when anxiety and even panic are on the rise, baseball with friends and family can be the perfect remedy. So please know that in making this decision, our coaches and Board trustees were at all times considering the many ways to support the wellness of your children.

COVID-19 is a new disease. There’s so much we don’t know about it and testing is currently limited. A child or an adult might not even know he or she is carrying the virus. But we do know that it spreads quickly and the most vulnerable victims include the oldest members of our family. We’re going to do our best to keep them safe. Few things better than seeing grandparents on the sidelines cheering us on!

In the meantime, please exercise caution and care. The Centers for Disease Control and other health experts recommend the following: avoid social gatherings, wash your hands often for a minimum of 20 seconds, try not to touch your face, cough/sneeze into your elbow, and stay home if you're not feeling well.We hope to resume baseball activities as soon as possible.

Opening Day festivities are still scheduled for Saturday April 18, after the spring recess. We fully expect to play ball this season! Spring registration will stay open a little longer beyond March 15. We’ll extend the deadline to March 22, but then we will close it for good as we need to set team rosters and order uniforms. So please, if you know a family with an inkling to sign up, tell them the time to register is now. More information can be found on our site https://www.philipstownlittleleague.com/philipstownllny

If you have a question regarding anything in this letter, please shoot me an email. Thank you for your patience and thank you always for supporting the Philipstown Little League.

Warmly,
Paul Tomizawa
President, Philipstown Little League
